It’s a special day at Winnipeg Harvest, as we come together to recognize and celebrate the hard work and commitment of our volunteers, and to present the 2019 Lee Newton Memorial Award for Volunteer Excellence.
At Winnipeg Harvest, we get to see the impact of the food we collect and distribute and it’s nothing short of remarkable. Every volunteer role at Winnipeg Harvest is equally important. On behalf of the entire Winnipeg Harvest CREW and our Board of Directors I want to thank all of our 8,000 volunteers, sincerely for their tremendous time and effort.
Volunteers are the heart and soul of Winnipeg Harvest and because of them, thousands of hungry Manitobans receive food every month. We thank our volunteers for sharing in our commitment help those in need.
Special thanks to our community kitchen for preparing a special lunch and to all of our team members who organized a week full of fun to help us celebrate National Volunteer Week.
This year it is my honour to present the Lee Newton Memorial Reward for Volunteer Excellence to Norm Martel. Over the past 11 years, Norm has volunteered an incredible 3,581 hours. We thank Norm for his passion, dedication and commitment to helping us end hunger and feed hope.
The Lee Newton Memorial Award for Volunteer Excellence was inspired by Lee Newton, who founded Winnipeg Harvest in 1985. The award was created to honour her legacy and the extraordinary work of our volunteers.
