Kara started volunteering at Winnipeg Harvest when she was 10 years old. She and her step-dad heard Lee Newton’s call for volunteers on the radio and decided they would be part of the change they wanted to see. Over the last 23 years Kara has helped out in just about every area—sorting produce, bagging flour, the Green Team, food bank, front reception, and the list goes on.
“It’s the people, the atmosphere,” said Kara, when asked what keeps her coming back after all this time. “I consider Winnipeg Harvest my second family and I feel like I can trust the people here. It’s just a good place to be.”
