A 286-Pound Birthday Gift

For the third year in a row, 10-year-old Yan C. asked everyone attending her birthday party to bring food donations for Winnipeg Harvest instead of gifts for her.

With the help of her friends and family, Yan collected 286 pounds of food and was excited to bring it all to our warehouse this week.

“I thought that I have enough toys and stuff and don’t need to keep getting new ones every year,” Yan said. “There was one person who still brought a gift but they also brought food to donate so it was OK.”

Yan added that she’d learned about how many people don’t have enough to eat at the Kids Who Care program at Winnipeg Harvest and decided this could be her way of sharing what she had with people who don’t have enough.
