Past Team Members of the Month
- APRIL 2013 Winnipeg Harvest salutes both Dave Mouland (left) and John Tanner, valued team volunteers. Dave has been a long-time volunteer in our call centre, while John is a huge asset in our mailroom. Later this month, Dave will receive the Premier’s Volunteer Service Award, which honours the efforts & dedication of outstanding volunteers in Manitoba and also recognizes and encourages the valuable services performed by volunteers throughout the province. John will receive the 2013 Safeway Celebration of Ability Award, which awarded to someone who inspires others through their hard work, generosity of time and spirit of character on behalf of an organization. Congratulations gentlemen!
- APRIL 2013 – PART II: Hugo has been volunteering for Winnipeg Harvest since October 2005. He was working as a truck driver, sorting food and a group hosting every Monday.
- MARCH 2013 Jennifer Stefansson has been volunteering at Winnipeg Harvest for one year. A self-described people person, Jennifer’s kind personality and warm demeanor provide a friendly welcome to clients, donors and visitors to 1085 Winnipeg Avenue when Jennifer is working the reception area. Among Jennifer’s wishes are that more people would donate their time to help out at Winnipeg Harvest. Thanks Jennifer.
- FEBRUARY 2013 – Shelley Malo
- JANUARY 2013 Businesses often use volunteering at Winnipeg Harvest as a team building exercise. Winnipeg Harvest wishes to acknowledge and say thank you to the crew from RONA who took time to donate money, time and food.
- DECEMBER 2012 Joseph Mbugua and George Shannon came to Winnipeg Harvest three months ago through Canada World Youth. Joseph is from Kenya and George is from Nova Scotia. They worked in the food bank room, helping out in the warehouse, group hosting and attending special events on behalf of Winnipeg Harvest.
- NOVEMBER 2012 Each day, our intrepid kitchen crew prepares healthy lunches for our team of over 90 people. Every morning they meet to plan a menu and gather various items from our shelves and cooler. They prepare colourful salads and veggies trays. They have heartwarming sandwiches and hot food items from the slow cooker. They also make sure there is always a sweet treat for afterwards to go with your coffee.
- OCTOBER 2012 Jesse Cerdon has been volunteering at Winnipeg Harvest for several months with the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) Jesse was our in-hour tax specialist, helping 385 people do their taxes and volunteering a total of 55.5 hours… in September alone. The program filed a total of 3,684 tax files for the 2011 tax year. This is 218 more files than the previous season, done in a shorter period. The program helps low income people to do their taxes, and assist them in learning more about these benefits. Some include; GST credit, Manitoba Shelter Benefit, Universal Child Tax Benefit, Guaranteed Income Supplement (for seniors) and many more. Thanks Jesse!
- SEPTEMBER 2012 Katherine Meese is a summer intern from the Winnipeg Foundation Youth In Philanthropy Summer Intern Program. Katherine has just completed grade 12 at Oak Park High School and is starting in the Engineering program at the University of Manitoba in September. Katherine has been working with Volunteer Services and has been willing to help out wherever needed. Over the course of the summer Katherine has worked in most departments at Winnipeg Harvest, from working at reception, providing group tours, filling orders and working in the food bank room, Katherine has been a great member of our team!
- AUGUST 2012 – Chris Hege – Chris came to us from Germany last year through Mennonite Voluntary Services. Chris is extremely hard-working, helpful and kind. He always goes out of his way to help others with anything they need. Thanks for your great dedication and hard work Chris!We’ll miss you!

- June 2012 – Winnipeg Harvest thanks Lauren Finkel (left) for her excellent work in the area of Social Media. Lauren is a U of W student who is currently completing her Bachelor of Arts degree. She has volunteered for many years. Volunteering in the Public Education department of Winnipeg Harvest has opened Janelle Freed’s (right) eyes to the origins of poverty. The International Development Studies graduate from Skippack, Pennsylvania, came to Winnipeg Harvest a year ago as part of the Mennonite Voluntary Service Adventure (MVSA) program.
- May 2012 Dennis (left) and Lisa are key members of the Agency Surplus Team. Winnipeg harvest says thank you for the your ongoing commitment to supervising visiting agencies – for being reliable and showing up each Tuesday and Thursday, for responsibly supervising agencies and following our fair share model. They are also friendly faces of Harvest to all who visit.

- April 2012 – Bob Malo – Winnipeg Harvest says thanks to Bob Malo for many years or great volunteer service.
- March 2012 – Donnia Tran comes to us from Toronto through the Katimavak program. Donnia has spent three months helping at Winnipeg Harvest.
- FEB 2012: Frederick (Rick) Perry-Parent and Allen Perry-Parent have been volunteering since September of 2010. They started in sorting area and also work in the food bank room. They volunteer Thursday mornings and Friday afternoons. They help train new volunteers in the food bank room, always follow the procedure and work above and beyond. Thank you gentlemen.
- JAN 2012: Grant is one of our hard working volunteers in the warehouse, having been a volunteer here since September 2010. Thanks for all your help Grant!
- DEC 2011 : In his quest against disorder and chaos, Phillip sorts and organizes the sortation shelves. Phillip exhibits many superhero-like qualities including a great attitude, a friendly spirit, an awesome work ethic and an amazing attention to detail. Thanks for all of your hard work!
- NOV 2011: Joey-Jayne (left) and Iris -Joey has been volunteering for 4 years in several capacities including setting up displays on behalf of Winnipeg Harvest. Iris has helped out at events handing out information and talking to members of the public. Joey-Jayne and Iris are friends and often volunteer together at Winnipeg Harvest.
- OCT 2011 Cory has been with Winnipeg Harvest for 9 1/2 years. She volunteers in the Communications department and helps put together media packages. She loves volunteering here because everyone is so friendly. Keep up the great work Cory!!
- SEPT 2011: Jeanette is our gardener during summer 2011. She has done a great job to our garden. Our patio and backyard look fantastic because of her.
- AUG. 2011: Beatric came to us from Germany through Mennonite Voluntary Service in August 2010. She has been a huge help in the warehouse over the past year.
- SEPT. 2011: Sandy, Curtis and Garrett are nursing students at the University of Manitoba. Thank you for your help!
- JUNE 2011: Denny & Eduard are our IVEPers from Paraguay and Colombia. Their cheerful smiles and great senses of humor have livened all the days we’ve spent working with them in sortation, surplus and the warehouse.
- MAY 2011: This group of exceptional volunteers has brought us over 1,200 lunches since they began. We always look forward to seeing them (and their delicious chilli) on Thursdays.
- APR 2011: Kim is a social work student from Booth College who worked in Referrals, helping with Intake and Client contacts. A colleague in Referrals described her as “Awesome”.
- MARCH 2011: Cynthia has helped out at Winnipeg Harvest since 2004. Her hard work is much appreciated, as are her positive attitude, smiles and cheerful greetings!
- FEB. 2011: Trudy and Don have volunteered at Winnipeg Harvest since 1999. As order fillers, they inspire us with their energy and dedication.
- JAN. 2011: Kathy has helped out in Sortation and in the Kitchen since January of 2010. Her willingness to try new things and to encourage others to do the same has really made Kathy a standout.
