Approximately 15% of Winnipeg Harvest clients are working. This interactive activity breaks the stereotype of what society thinks of a typical food bank client. Living on Less is a simulation where Winnipeg Harvest works with large groups to teach about the realities of the “working poor.” These clients work full-time minimum wage jobs, but do not have enough money to cover the basic needs of a family, such as housing, transportation, electricity, technology, education and food. The Living on Less activity allows students to understand the challenges and decisions working families need to make in order to get by each month.
