How We Help

HOW TO GET FOOD

For food assistance please phone (204) 982-3660.

We help anyone who asks us for food.  We simply require that you provide a Manitoba medical number to receive emergency food.

Who uses our food banks?

Monday – Friday: 9:15am till 3:30pm
  Saturday: 9:30am till 12:30pm

Our volunteer phone operators will assist you in making an appointment at a Winnipeg area foodbank.

Each month, Winnipeg Harvest shares food with almost 58,000 people in Manitoba.

What to do to get food from Winnipeg Harvest:

  • If you need food, you can get it in your neighbourhood through Winnipeg Harvest.
  • Harvest assists everyone to access food as soon as possible as close to home as possible.
  • Phone Harvest to make an appointment to pick up food from one of Harvest’s food banks. If you live outside Winnipeg, you’ll be directed to an outlet in your community.
  • You’ll talk with a Harvest volunteer.  He or she will ask you for information such as the number of children in your household and your source of income (not the amount).

What Will I Receive?

Winnipeg Harvest and Partner Agencies

Winnipeg Harvest distributes food through more than 320 neighbourhood agencies.  Partner agencies, throughout the city and province include churches, community centres, schools, post-secondary education facilities, day cares, soup kitchens and community agencies.

Quick Facts:

Food banks, many of which are faith based organizations, provide grocery hampers to individuals and families.  Two of the most vulnerable populations in Manitoba we provide food to are children and the elderly.  Last year 51% of food bank recipients were children and the number of seniors fed doubled.  Food banks supplied by Winnipeg Harvest can be located within the city or in communities outside Winnipeg.

Day cares, many located within the inner city, depend on Winnipeg Harvest to stretch the food budgets allotted to them.  In addition to day cares, community organizations for children and youth depend on Winnipeg Harvest to provide up to 100% of their snack or meal needs.

Community Kitchens help those in need to combine resources, cooking and preparing healthy foods together to take to their individual homes.  Winnipeg Harvest helps supplement these programs with available vegetables and other food items.

Winnipeg Harvest also provides food products to the major soup kitchens within the city.
