Position Group Host
Days Mon – Sat, 1-2 shifts a week, min. 3 month commitment
Shifts Monday – Saturday: Morning (10 a.m. – 12 p.m.), Afternoon (1 – 3 p.m.)

Monday – Friday: Evenings (6 – 8:30 p.m.)

Description Confer with Volunteer Services and/or warehouse staff to determine the activities for the group
Set up volunteer activity area
Greet group on arrival, and seat them in group area
Give presentation on Winnipeg Harvest adapted to age and group. Use DVD and provide an oral presentation on Winnipeg Harvest. Tour the building, pointing out the work done at each station, the need to be met and the role of the team members.
When tour is finished, bring group to work station
Keep group on task and work within their time frame
Set them up for work, help them as needed and stress the importance of the work they’re doing
Track group volunteer hours and donations from group

Comfortable working in a warehouse setting
Criminal record check and Vulnerable sector check required (Winnipeg Harvest will cover cost after training period)

Characteristics Friendly and outgoing, be comfortable being the lead in a group
Must be fluent in English, additional language an asset
Commitment to providing a high standard of service and an atmosphere of respect and dignity in all aspects of the program
Able to work independently and take initiative, as well as work cooperatively within a team
Enjoys working with a wide variety of people, including children, adults, seniors, and people with disabilities
Ability to multi-task, problem solve and remain flexible within a fast-paced and changing environment
Consistent ability to remain positive and calm when responding to challenging situations
Adaptable – enjoys the challenge of changing situations
