What is Give 30 and what’s the connection to Harvest?

Good question! Give 30 is a great national initiative encouraging charitable donations to food banks across Canada during the month of Ramadan, June 6 to July 5, 2016. The 30-day event is open to people of all faiths and cultures in the spirit of community and charity. Give 30 is run entirely by volunteers; all proceeds go to a participating food bank of your choice, across Canada, including Winnipeg Harvest.

Give 30 was founded in Toronto in 2012 by Human Rights Lawyer Ziyaad Mia. Winnipeg Harvest is very pleased to working with Mr. Mia, and our local Give 30 Team comprised of former Winnipeg Blue Bomber and restaurateur Ibrahim “Obby” Khan, CBC Radio’s Kaj Hasselriis, journalist and program manager for the Canadian Muslim Leadership Institute Nadia Kidwai, University of Manitoba students Ali and Mohammad Almaleki, along with members of Harvest staff.

We encourage all Manitobans to contribute to this terrific  campaign, regardless of faith, as a show of support for hungry families in need.

“Hunger in Canada is a Canadian problem that has to have a Canadian solution. We’re using Ramadan as a basis, but this is something we can, and should, all be united in.”
