Winnipeg Harvest has numerous programs you can participate in and donate to that help with the fight against hunger and feed hope in Winnipeg and Manitoba.
1. Floral Philanthropy: Donate flowers leftover from your event to brighten someone’s day.
2. More Than Shoes: This program works with schools to provide kids with proper footwear.
3. Bag It Forward: Collect and recycle your plastic bags to be used at Winnipeg Harvest.
Youth & School Programs:
1. Youth Nights: Winnipeg Harvest hosts regular Youth Nights where students and youth are able to volunteer in our warehouse sorting, bagging or packaging food among other various tasks to fulfill required volunteer service hours.
2. Kids Who Care: This program engages, recognizes and educates children and youth who collect food, fundraise money and volunteer for Winnipeg Harvest through educational activities, workshops and family events.
3. Empty Bowls in Schools: This project consists of 3 components: learning about hunger and poverty in the classroom and warehouse, decorating empty bowls, and organizing a community event with the bowls to raise money or food for Winnipeg Harvest.
4. Operation Donation: An annual week-long food drive in Manitoba schools.
5. Tools for School: Annual school supply drive for Manitoban students.
6. Halloween for Harvest: School collection or door-to-door of non-perishable food items.
7. Poverty Pledge: An activity that draws awareness to hunger and poverty-related issues by encouraging youth and others to live off of $3.96 a day for food and basic necessities.
8. Living on Less: This interactive activity works to break the stereotype of what society thinks of a typical food bank client and allows students to understand the challenges and decisions working families need to make in order to get by each month.
9. Partnership for Change: This partnership is a year-long outcome-based and experience-rich curriculum project involving volunteering, teaching food skills, creative social justice projects, and learning about hunger, poverty, food systems and food from a cultural perspective.
