Winnipeg Blue Bombers ‘fighting hunger and feeding hope’ for 30 years

WINNIPEG, MB. — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have been a part of Winnipeg Harvest’s fight against hunger for 30 years.

“We are thankful for the long-standing relationship with the Bombers. They have walked alongside side us for three decades raising food and funds for the hungry families in Winnipeg. Thank you Big Blue, says David Northcott, executive director, Winnipeg Harvest.

The #30K for 30YRS campaign from July 7-14 is asking fans to bring a toonie to the July 14 game hoping to raise $30,000 to celebrate the 30 year anniversary.

The Blue Bombers and their fans have donated 4.3 million pounds of food over the last 30 years. They are also the only team in the CFL that has a food bank collecting donations at each home game.

In 1986, Winnipeg Harvest fed 4100 people per month with 33 per cent children. Thirty years later, Winnipeg Harvest feeds nearly 64,000 people each month with 42 per cent children.

The Eskimos vs Bombers on July 14 at Investors Group Field. Kickoff time is 7:30 p.m.
